A two year old Guadeloupe full-proof agricole from Longueteau, single-plot red cane aged in new French oak, intensely vegetal and peppery with sugarcane, fruit and a chocolate finish, brutally strong and dry at 73.5%.
Description
Longueteau GENESIS Collection Rhum Ambre is a Guadeloupe agricole from the Esperance distillery, where Longueteau has farmed and distilled fresh-pressed cane juice since 1895 as the oldest family-owned agricole house on the island. This bottling is made from red cane grown on a single plot, distilled in 2020 and aged two years.
The spirit runs off a creole column kept low to preserve the green cane congeners, then matures in new French oak, an aggressive choice that layers fresh wood spice over the vegetal core. Bottled at brute de fut strength with nothing added, it is enormous: 73.5% drives an intense, peppery, faintly medicinal palate of sugarcane and fruit that resolves into a sweet chocolate note on the finish, the sweetness coming from the cane and oak rather than dosage. This is a rum for cautious dilution and serious agricole drinkers.
