A cask-strength Guadeloupe agricole from Longueteau, fresh cane juice off a creole column showing an unusually dark, nutty profile of butterscotch, prune, leather and almond, dry and rich at 49.8%.
Description
Longueteau, the oldest family-owned agricole distillery still operating in Guadeloupe, made its name on fresh, single-estate blancs, but Concerto shows a darker, more brooding side of the house. It is distilled from fresh-pressed sugarcane juice rather than molasses, run through the distillery's creole column low on purpose to keep the cane congeners in the spirit.
Where many Longueteau bottlings sing bright and grassy, this one leans earthy and nutty: butterscotch, prunes and stewed fruit on the nose, a palate of wood, leather, almond and a sweet edge, and a peppery, sugarcane finish. Bottled at cask strength, it carries that weight without losing the dry agricole frame, and there is no added sugar. The result is a richer, more contemplative pour than a typical blanc, suited to slow neat sipping where its prune-and-wood depth has room to unfold.
