Longrow 18 Year Old is one of the longest-running mature expressions in Springbank’s heavily peated range, though its release history has been uneven. The first 18 year old appeared in 2008, before dropping out of the lineup and re-emerging in 2011. Since then, it has settled into a limited, near-annual release pattern, governed by the availability of suitably aged peated stock rather than a fixed production schedule.

Longrow is produced at Springbank as the heavily peated, double distilled style, designed to emphasise smoke, weight and coastal character. At 18 years of age, the peat is no longer dominant, instead becoming integrated into a broader profile shaped by long oxidation and cask interaction. All Longrow 18 releases are bottled at a consistent 46.0% ABV, presented with natural colour and without chill filtration.

The 2024 release is matured predominantly in sherry casks with a small port component, a combination chosen to add depth and structure rather than sweetness. The sherry influence brings dried fruit, spice and firmness, while the port element contributes subtle roundness without shifting the whisky into overt wine territory. The cask balance supports the smoky spirit rather than competing with it.

Across community tasting notes, Longrow 18 is consistently described as measured rather than aggressive, with smoke sitting alongside maritime minerality, earthy notes and mature fruit. Charcoal and soft ash replace youthful peat, while dark fruit, citrus peel and oak spice develop on the palate. The finish is long, dry and mineral, with lingering smoke and restrained oak, reinforcing Longrow 18’s role as a mature, balanced peated whisky rather than a display of raw intensity.
