A mature 22 Year Old Long Pond finished in cognac wood, drier and more polished than the usual ester bomb, with tropical fruit, caramel, coffee and dark chocolate over elegant oak at 54.8%.
Description
This is Plantation Extreme No. 3, Maison Ferrand's bottling of Long Pond ITP from 1996, drawn from the historic Wedderburn house in Trelawny. At 22 years old and 54.8% it sits in the older, more contemplative end of Long Pond's range, with the ITP mark giving a fruity, funky character rather than the distillery's wildest extremes.
It is pure pot still rum from molasses, matured in oak with cognac casks shaping the finish, a hallmark of the Ferrand house style. The result is drier and more elegant than classic Long Pond funk: tropical fruit and overripe banana meet caramel, coffee and dark chocolate, with cognac oak rounding it off. Bottled at cask strength without added sugar, it is a polished, slow sipper for drinkers who want Long Pond character with extra age and restraint.
