A six year old Bielle agricole from Marie-Galante bottled by LMDW at a firm 56%, dry and intense with tropical fruit and fresh cane up front, then honey, citrus and firm oak spice, a powerful unsweetened sipper that rewards air.
Description
This Extra Vieux Small Batch is a 2010 Marie-Galante agricole from Bielle, selected by the French retailer La Maison du Whisky and bottled at 56%. Bielle is known on Marie-Galante for cane-variety experiments and high-proof releases, and this aged expression carries that house intensity.
Pressed from fresh sugarcane juice and distilled on a column still run low to preserve the cane congeners, it spends six tropical years in ex-bourbon oak, where the heat drives deeper extraction than the age suggests. The nose leads with tropical fruit, fresh cane and a fruity lift, the palate brings vanilla, freshness and a spicy sweetness, and the finish stays fruity and spicy. It reads dry and powerful with honey, exotic fruit, citrus and firm oak spice. The added-sugar status is not documented and the profile leans dry. Best given a good airing and taken neat, it is an assertive agricole for drinkers who like proof and freshness together.
