Description
Llebre is a Tempranillo red from D.O. Costers del Segre, made by Tomàs Cusiné, who began his own project in 2003 at El Vilosell in the old village cooperative. The vines grow at 700 metres on limestone soils, where the altitude and a continental climate of frosty winters and summers up to 35 degrees give a wide day-to-night temperature swing. That swing preserves freshness and aromatic detail in the fruit while the cool nights hold acidity. The wine sees only four months in French oak, a short ageing that softens the tannins and adds light spice while keeping the focus on bright, primary fruit. The colour is bright cherry red. The nose shows red berries, cherry and plum with a touch of pepper and a fresh, earthy note. The palate is medium bodied and smooth, with supple tannin, lively acidity and a clean, fruity finish. This magnum is an easygoing, food-friendly red for the table now. Serve at 16 degrees. It pairs with roast pork, poultry and mushroom dishes.
