La Vinyeta blends Macabeo, Garnacha Roja and Xarel·lo for this Empordà white. A short spell on lees and two months in French oak give it an unctuous, textured palate of ripe pear, baked apple and a hint of toasted bread over Mediterranean freshness.

Description
Llavors Blanc comes from La Vinyeta in D.O. Empordà, the northern Catalan region pressed between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean and swept by the Tramuntana wind, which keeps the vineyards dry and healthy. The winery is run by Josep Serra and Marta Pedra, a young couple making authentic wines under respectful farming. The blend of Macabeo, Garnacha Roja and Xarel·lo draws on three traditional local whites, combining orchard fruit, body and acidity. After fermentation the wine spends a short time on its lees, then two months in French oak barrels. The brief oak ageing and lees contact are used to add complexity and a silky texture rather than obvious wood flavour, with the lees releasing mannoproteins that broaden the mouthfeel while gentle oxygen exchange rounds the fruit. The wine stays fresh in spite of its weight. The colour is bright straw yellow. The nose shows ripe pear and baked apple with a subtle smoky, toasty note reminiscent of freshly toasted bread. The palate is unctuous and intense, with white peach and a nutty, honeyed depth carried by lively acidity into a long finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees.
