Cooperativa Sant Josep de Bot makes this Garnacha Blanca in Terra Alta from old vines averaging fifty years. Cold-macerated then aged five months in French oak, it is a fuller white with white peach, pear and vanilla over a warm, herbal depth.
Description
Llagrimes de Tardor Blanc is made by Cooperativa Sant Josep de Bot, a winery of more than half a century's standing in Bot, in the D.O. Terra Alta in southern Catalonia. It is a single-variety Garnacha Blanca from old vines averaging around fifty years, spread across several sites with different soils and microclimates, which adds complexity to the blend. Old vines crop lightly and give more concentrated fruit, a natural advantage in this warm, dry Mediterranean region. After destemming, the grapes are cold-macerated on their skins for about twenty hours before pressing, a step that pulls extra aroma and flavour from the skins while the low temperature holds the fruit fresh. The wine is then aged for five months in French oak. It is bright gold, with a nose of white peach, pear and melon lifted by vanilla and a thread of dried thyme. The palate is dry and full, the ripe fruit and gentle barrel spice carried by fresh acidity to a long, savoury finish. Serve at 11 to 12 degrees. It suits grilled fish, roast chicken, pork and vegetable dishes.
