Description
Pinot Grigio is a mutation of Pinot Noir that thrives in cooler climates, which is why it settled so well in the hills of Friuli in north-east Italy. Livio Felluga grows it in the Colli Orientali on loam and sandstone soils, well-drained ground that lends the wine its mineral freshness and keeps acidity firm through the growing season. The grapes are hand-harvested, gently destemmed and given a short maceration to lift aroma, then pressed and the must clarified by settling. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel at controlled temperatures, an unoaked approach that preserves the grape's delicate orchard fruit and keeps the style crisp and precise rather than heavy. The 2024 is pale straw, faintly coppery, with a clean nose of pear, green apple and lemon over white flowers. The palate is dry and light, fresh and direct at 13 percent, with a faint almond note and a crisp, mineral finish. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees in a white glass.
