Description
Signatory Vintage bottles widely and without colouring, an Edinburgh house since 1988. Distilled in 1965, this 32 year old Littlemill, from cask 5275 was bottled in 1998, from the 10th Anniversary range. A tiny outturn from a lost distillery, the kind of bottle collectors of closed Lowland malts chase hard.
Ex-Bourbon and thirty-two years round Littlemill's light, buttery Lowland spirit.
At its natural 49.1%, vanilla and light oak come from the bourbon cask. The Lowland softness shows, floral and lightly fruity. American oak is low in tannin, so the cask works gently, hemicellulose caramelising to light toffee and lignin yielding vanilla. After so long, much of the cask has gone to evaporation, the surviving spirit slowly dropping in strength as alcohol outpaces water in the humid air.
