Description
Lindes de Remelluri Viñedos de San Vicente is a village red from Rioja, made by Remelluri, the estate the Rodríguez family reclaimed in 1967 and which Telmo Rodríguez now leads. The Lindes wines are built from the holdings of independent growers, here those around San Vicente de la Sonsierra on the cooler northern bank of the Ebro, a site of high vineyards on poor clay and limestone soils at the foot of the Sierra de Toloño. The altitude and the mountain shelter give cold nights and a long, slow growing season, ripening the Tempranillo while keeping its acidity bright and its aromas fresh. The blend is led by Tempranillo with Garnacha and other local reds, fermented and then aged twelve months in French oak, where measured oxygen exchange softens the tannins and frames the fruit without dominating it. The colour is medium ruby. The nose centres on black cherry and plum with red berries, dried Mediterranean herbs and a leafy tobacco note, and the palate is fresh and savoury, medium bodied with fine tannins and an earthy, lightly leathery close that speaks of the cool site. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees. It is a traditional Rioja for the table.
