A soft, long-aged Mexican sipper leaning on dark chocolate, raisin and roasted caramel from two decades in sherry-seasoned oak, column-distilled from molasses at a gentle 40% and built for dessert rather than power.
Description
Mocambo comes from Licores Veracruz in Mexico, and this Edicion de Arte carries twenty years of age, a column-distilled molasses rum finished in sherry casks. It sits in the soft, dessert-leaning Latin school of rum, where the barrel rather than the spirit does most of the talking.
The long sherry maturation pushes it toward dried fruit and confection, dark chocolate, raisin and roasted, caramelised oak, with a woody, charred edge on the finish. Column distillation keeps the base light and low on funk, so at 40% it drinks gentle and easy rather than powerful, and it can read quite thin for its years. The added-sugar status is not disclosed, but the profile is plainly sweet and rounded, an after-dinner pour that pairs naturally with a cigar.
