A 12 year old Ron Medellin from Colombia, aged in Ex-Bourbon into chocolate, caramel and warm wood spice with a notably nutty palate, a solid, balanced and approachable everyday Colombian sipper at 40%.
Description
Licores de Antioquia Ron Medellin 12 Years Old comes from a long established Colombian state producer, a twelve year old that offers an accessible, less commonly seen take on the country's rum. It sits in a softer, more straightforward register than the darker, roast heavy releases Colombia is often known for.
Distilled from molasses and aged in Ex-Bourbon oak, it leads with a spicy, chocolate and caramel nose, then carries chocolate and caramel onto a notably nutty palate. The wood spice gives it a slightly unusual, savoury lift over the sweeter caramel base. Its sugar status is undisclosed and a light sweetness underpins it, but it stays balanced and drinkable rather than cloying. A solid, fairly priced Colombian that rewards casual sipping and mixes well, the kind of dependable twelve year old that suits both newcomers and everyday pours.
