A sweet, citrus-led Salvadoran sipper from Licorera Cihuatan, column distilled from molasses and openly sweetened, leaning on orange and tangerine over caramel and vanilla, soft and oily at 40% and built for easy drinking rather than scrutiny.
Description
Cinabrio is the twelve-year flagship from Licorera Cihuatan in El Salvador, a column still rum made from molasses in the smooth, rounded Spanish-style idiom. Where the distillery's younger Cihuatan bottlings lean drier, this one is built around a pronounced orange and tangerine character that sets it apart, with caramel and vanilla filling in behind.
This is a sweetened rum and reads that way, so it is best taken as a soft, fruity after-dinner pour rather than a dry aged sipper. The orange turns oily and chewy on the palate, joined by dark wood and a little spice, before a mild, caramelised finish. At 40% it is gentle and undemanding, an accessible, beginner-friendly bottle for casual sipping or a simple long drink, where the citrus and sweetness do the work in place of depth or grip.
