A gently sweetened El Salvador sipper from Cihuatan, the Suerte aged sixteen years and bottled at 44.2%, offering vanilla, citrus, dried fruit and soft sherry over light oak, an easygoing, mildly sweet pour.
Description
Cihuatan Suerte is a column-distilled molasses rum from El Salvador's Licorera Cihuatan, aged sixteen years and bottled at 44.2%. It carries a modest dosage, so while it is far from a sugar bomb, it reads as a gently sweetened, smooth rum rather than a bone-dry one, and honesty places it in the easygoing Latin style.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak, the nose shows fruit, vanilla, sherry and sweetness, while the palate brings vanilla, dried fruit and a sherried edge. The finish turns toward biscuit, milk chocolate, cinnamon and butterscotch. The overall character is comfortable and approachable: vanilla and light wood spice with a moderate sweetness and easy drinkability. It lands as a relaxed sipper for drinkers who like smooth Latin rum but want something a touch lighter and drier than the sweetest names, pleasant neat or with a little ice.
