A single cask Cihuatan from El Salvador at eighteen years and 53.6%, dry and savoury with leather, oak and dried fruit lifted by a cool menthol streak and a warm, lemony close.
Description
Cihuatan is distilled at Licorera Cihuatan in El Salvador from estate grown cane, and this Folklore Dualidad release presents an eighteen year old single cask at cask strength, 53.6%. Bottling at full proof from a single barrel sets it apart from the brand's softer core range.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak, the spirit carries the marks of long ageing, with leather, oak and dried fruit on a sweet edged nose. The palate turns drier and more savoury, a distinct menthol coolness running through oak, and the finish stays warm with a twist of lemon. Some drinkers find an almost Guyanese cast to the aroma, wood, leather and mint together. Sugar is undeclared, but the cask strength single barrel format points to an honest, oak driven sipper.
