Description
Libano Crianza 3 Generaciones is made by Bodegas Castillo de Sajazarra in the west of Haro, in the highest and coolest part of Rioja Alta. The blend is led by Tempranillo with smaller parts of Graciano and Garnacha Tinta, a traditional Rioja recipe in which Tempranillo gives the red fruit and backbone, Graciano adds acidity, colour and aromatic lift, and Garnacha brings roundness. The altitude and the cool climate of this corner of the region keep ripening slow and acidity fresh, which holds the wine to a balanced 13.5% alcohol. Following fermentation it spends 18 months in a mix of French and American oak barrels; the American oak in particular contributes the coconut and sweet vanilla spice that characterises classic Rioja, while barrel ageing settles the tannin and develops savoury, leathery complexity. The colour is medium ruby with a garnet rim. The nose shows red berries and cherry over liquorice, vanilla and cedar. The palate is medium bodied and smooth, with supple tannin, bright acidity and a savoury, lightly spiced finish. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees. It is a natural match for roast lamb and mushroom dishes.
