Les Rhums du Sud Carrere Montebello Pur jus de canne (Collection Guillaume de Roany)

Montebello is a traditional Guadeloupe agricole, made by the Marsolle family at the Carrere distillery on Basse Terre from fresh pressed sugar cane juice under the island's IGP. This pur jus de canne blanc was selected by Les Rhums du Sud as part of the Guillaume de Roany collection and reduced to navy strength, 57%, before bottling, an unaged white built to show raw cane at high volume.

The nose is vegetal, fresh and intense with a note of berries, while the palate turns oily and vegetal with the same intensity and berry fruit, the finish staying intense and fruity with lemon peel and warmth. It drinks as a bomb of an unaged rum, packed with fruit and the classic markers of the distillery, rewarding a short rest in the glass and a drop of water to open further. Unsweetened and bottled at a punchy 57%, it is a vivid, full flavoured Guadeloupe blanc, a natural for a powerful Ti Punch or for sipping in careful measures.
