Les Jardins d’Édina is winemaker Olivier Rivière’s Merlot from Côtes de Bourg in Bordeaux. Raised nine months in concrete and barrel, it shows fresh cherry and raspberry fruit with a savoury, earthy structure and ripe tannins.
Description
Les Jardins d'Édina is the first cuvée Olivier Rivière made in Côtes de Bourg, on the right bank of Bordeaux, before returning fully to the region. It is a Merlot grown on the clay and limestone slopes above the Gironde estuary, soils that suit the grape, holding moisture through the season and giving the wine its plush fruit and savoury frame. After fermentation the wine is raised for nine months split between cement tanks and oak barrels. The concrete keeps the fruit fresh and direct without adding flavour, while the barrel portion rounds the tannins through oxygen exchange and adds a little spice and structure. Malolactic conversion softens the acidity and adds breadth. The 2022 is deep ruby, with lively aromas of cherry and raspberry over plum, black pepper and an earthy note. The palate is medium to full, with ripe fruit, fine tannin and a savoury, fresh finish. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees. It works with roast and grilled meats, pork and mushroom dishes.
