Description
A Navigation cuvee from the French independent Les Freres de la Cote, drawing on La Favorite in Martinique. As an AOC agricole it is fresh-pressed cane juice with no added sugar, this Cuvee No. 2 dated 2021, run off a creole column and bottled unsweetened at full strength of 54.1%.
The profile is firmly on the dry, savoury side of agricole. The nose is vegetal and herbal with anise and fennel leading, and the palate turns earthy with black pepper, more vegetal notes and a tannic grip. The finish stays vegetal with fruity and nutty touches. It is an uncompromising, herb-driven style that can read somewhat flat and one-dimensional, with the alcohol coming across a little firm and unpolished despite glimpses of milk chocolate and honey underneath. Honest and unsweetened, it will suit drinkers who want their agricole green, peppery and dry rather than fruity or rounded.
