Description
Domaine Les Creisses is a family estate in the Languedoc, founded in the nineteenth century and run today by Philippe Chesnelong with his cousin, the winemaker Louis Mitjavile. This IGP Pays d'Oc red blends Syrah, Grenacha Tinta, Cabernet Sauvignon and Mourvedre from vineyards set between the Mediterranean and the hills. The warm, sunny climate and stony soils ripen the fruit fully and give the wine its depth and 14% alcohol, while the cooling influence of the sea preserves enough freshness to keep it balanced. The grapes are fermented on the skins and the wine then spends twelve months in French oak barrels, where gentle oxygen exchange rounds the tannins and folds in vanilla and toast. The estate farms with respect for the land. In the glass it is deep red, with intense ripe black fruit, plum and blackberry, lifted by cracked pepper, liquorice and dried herbs. The palate is full and ripe, with firm but supple tannins and a long, spiced finish. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees, decanted if young. It suits grilled red meat and slow-cooked dishes.
