Description
Léon Beyer is a long established Alsace house, from a region that regained its Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée status in 1962 after decades of dispute. Gewürztraminer is the signature aromatic grape of Alsace, a pink skinned variety that produces some of the most perfumed white wine in the world. The style comes from the grape itself, which is naturally low in acid and high in aromatic compounds, so the fruit is picked fully ripe to capture that intensity while the house keeps the wine broadly dry. The continental climate of Alsace, sheltered by the Vosges mountains, gives a long, dry, sunny ripening season that concentrates aroma and sugar. It is deep gold in the glass. The nose is powerful, with rose petal, lychee, ginger and orange marmalade over ripe melon. The palate is full and rounded, fresh and balanced, with a spiced, gently exotic finish. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees in a standard white glass.
