L’Enclos de Peralba is the Penedes project of Roc and Leo Gramona, run on biodynamic and organic principles. This barrel aged Garnacha and Syrah red shows ripe plum, red berries and a peppery, herbal lift from the Mediterranean hills.
Description
L'Enclos de Peralba is run by Roc Gramona, sixth generation of the Penedes sparkling family, alongside his cousin Leo, on biodynamic and organic principles. The Vi fi de Masia blends Garnacha Tinta with Syrah from vineyards inland of the Catalan coast, where warm Mediterranean days and cooler nights off the Montserrat foothills give grapes that ripen fully while holding acidity. Garnacha brings red fruit and a soft, generous body; Syrah adds darker plum, structure and a savoury pepper edge. Biodynamic farming, with no synthetic inputs and attention to soil life, aims to deepen the vine roots and carry the limestone and clay character into the fruit. Fermentation runs on the grapes' own ambient yeasts, and time in barrel rounds the tannins through slow oxygen exchange while keeping the wine's freshness intact. The result is a red of medium to full body, deep ruby in the glass, with a nose of ripe plum, red berries, dried thyme and black pepper. The palate is warm and savoury, the fruit framed by fine grained tannin, liquorice and an earthy mineral finish. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees, decanted half an hour ahead. It works well with grilled lamb, roast beef and aged hard cheese.
