From the same old Sumoll vineyard as its sibling, L’Enclos de Peralba’s La Peca Coll del Guix is grown in the Great Penedes near Barcelona. Six months in French oak and six in bottle give a refined, light red of wet stone, red fruit and fine acidity.
Description
L'Enclos de Peralba farms an ancient plot of the indigenous Sumoll variety at Santa Margarida de Montbui, in the inland area it calls the Great Penedes. It shares the La Peca de Coll del Guix vineyard with a neighbouring producer, each making a separate wine, and this is the L'Enclos reading of the site. Sumoll is naturally pale, high in acidity and aromatic rather than tannic, and the inland location, with its cool nights and limestone-influenced soils, keeps the wine fresh and mineral. Farming is organic. The wine spends six months in 500 litre French oak barrels, large enough to soften the structure with very little wood flavour, followed by six months in bottle to settle and integrate. The colour is light ruby. The nose opens on wet stone and red fruit, with subtle floral and herbal notes. The palate is fine and supple, with bright acidity, a delicate grain of tannin and a clean, stony finish. Serve lightly chilled at 14 to 15 degrees. It suits poultry, mushrooms and lighter game without overwhelming them.
