Description
Legaris makes this Sauvignon Blanc in the D.O. Rueda, in Castilla y León, where the grape has taken hold alongside the region's better known Verdejo. Sauvignon Blanc arrived in Rueda in the 1970s and has adapted well to the stony soils, rich in calcium and magnesium, and to the continental climate of central Spain. Rueda sits high on the plateau, where cold nights preserve aromatics and acidity while hot days ripen the fruit. Fermentation in stainless steel at low temperature protects the grape's fresh, aromatic character. The colour is bright straw yellow with green reflections. The nose is intense, with passion fruit, mango and grapefruit lifted by fresh-cut grass and a green, herbal edge. The palate is crisp and dry, with tropical and citrus fruit carried by sharp acidity and a stony, mineral finish. This is a fresh, aromatic white made for early drinking. Serve it at 8 to 10 degrees in a white wine glass.
