Gordon & Company bottled this Ledaig, aged 8 year old from 2008, drawn from cask 963 and bottled at 57.4%. Only 266 bottles were released. Made on the Isle of Mull, Ledaig is the heavily peated malt of the island's only distillery. Burn Stewart revived the distillery in 1993, and Distell of South Africa bought it in 2013.

The spirit was distilled from malt peated to around thirty seven parts per million, building the bold, smoky Ledaig style. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, vanilla beneath the soot. Younger here, the peat runs bold over a sweet, fruity core. The heavily peated spirit holds its smoke well across long maturation. Burn Stewart revived production in 1993, and Distell bought the distillery in 2013. The stills carry boil bulbs and a kink in the lyne arms, which lifts the reflux. Water is drawn from a private hill loch, the Gearr Abhainn, above the town.

At 57.4%, undiluted, it is rich and deep. Wood smoke, BBQ char and a coastal salt, and ex-Bourbon oak gives vanilla and a light sweetness. It is bold and coastal, the peat and soot to the fore. The finish runs smoky, sweet and warm. This is a heavily peated malt from Mull's only distillery.
