Description
Le Tribute Durango is a joven mezcal made from Cenizo agave in the state of Durango under maestro mezcalero Uriel Simental, who follows the full traditional path of an underground pit oven, milling the agave by hand, fermenting in the open air on wild yeast and running a wood fired still. The brand is owned by MG Destilerias near Barcelona, better known for gin and soft drinks, but the mezcal is made and bottled in Durango, with a pledge to plant two agaves for every one harvested.
Pit roasting over wood is where the ember and pine notes come from, layered onto the naturally fruity, creamy character of Durango Cenizo. The spirit is fruity and lively, with tropical fruit, citrus and a tang of tamarind, then a light smokiness carrying a resinous pine edge. Bottled at 45%, it keeps the agave forward and shows the rugged northern style.
