Description
Le Grappin is the small, low-intervention estate of Andrew and Emma Nielsen, based in Beaune and focused on faithful, hands-off winemaking. This Bourgogne Côte d'Or Rouge is Pinot Noir drawn from vineyards within the Côte-d'Or, the stricter regional appellation that guarantees fruit from the classic limestone slopes rather than the wider Bourgogne zone. The calcareous clay soils and cool continental climate give bright acidity and a light, mineral frame, while the 2023 growing season delivered ripe, healthy fruit at a moderate 13 per cent. Made naturally with minimal additions, the wine is fermented and aged twelve months in used barrels, so the oak lends texture and slow oxygen softening rather than obvious wood flavour. The colour is a radiant ruby. The nose is fresh and pure, with ripe cherry, raspberry, rose and a touch of woodland earth. The palate is light to medium bodied, with juicy red fruit, fine tannin and a clean, savoury close. Serve lightly cool at 15 degrees in a Burgundy glass. It suits roast chicken, duck and mushroom dishes.
