Description
Le Coste is a natural-wine estate in Gradoli, northern Lazio, working volcanic soils on the slopes above Lake Bolsena. This Litrozzo Rosato is the easy-drinking, litre-bottle wine in the range, a field blend of Aleatico, Sangiovese, Merlot and Procanico grown organically. The volcanic, mineral-rich soils and the lake's moderating influence give wines that are light in body but savoury and textured. Winemaking is deliberately low-intervention: native-yeast fermentation, no added sulphur to speak of, no fining and no filtration, so the wine is naturally cloudy and lively, with a gentle, unforced character and a modest 10.5 percent alcohol. There is no oak. It pours a pale, hazy pink. The nose shows red berry, cherry and redcurrant with an earthy, savoury edge typical of the natural style and the volcanic site. The palate is light, dry and juicy, the red fruit carried by fresh acidity and a faintly saline, earthy finish. It is a glou-glou rosé made for easy drinking from the generous litre format. Serve lightly chilled at 8 to 10 degrees.
