Description
Gelmino and Cristina Dal Bosco founded Le Battistelle in 2002 in Brognoligo, at the centre of the Soave Classico zone in the province of Verona. Garganega is the grape behind all classic Soave, a late-ripening variety that holds its acidity well. The Classico hills here are built on old volcanic rock, and those basalt and tuff soils give the wine its mineral, savoury character and a fine bitterness on the close. Warm days and cooler nights let the grapes ripen slowly while keeping freshness intact. After a gentle pressing, the wine is aged on its lees, which fills out the texture and adds a subtle savoury depth without masking the fruit. The colour is straw-yellow with green hints. The nose combines yellow apple and ripe pear with white flowers, dried herbs and a note of almond, and the palate is dry and fresh, elegant and gastronomic in the Italian mould, closing on the almond bitterness typical of the grape. This is a food white first and foremost. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees.
