Bodegas Laus makes this Somontano rosé from Garnacha Tinta and Syrah grown on limestone and gypsum soils near Barbastro. It is fresh and lively, showing strawberry, red cherry and a floral, violet lift, with a smooth, balanced palate.
Description
Bodegas Laus farms 100 hectares in the south of D.O. Somontano, in the foothills of the Pyrenees in north-eastern Spain. This rosé blends Garnacha Tinta and Syrah from the winery's best vineyards around Barbastro, where limestone and gypsum soils sit at altitude. The chalky subsoil and cool Pyrenean nights preserve acidity and keep the fruit precise, while the elevation slows ripening so the grapes hold their freshness through harvest. The wine is made by direct press and cool fermentation in stainless steel, a method that protects the bright primary fruit and gives the wine its pale, clean profile. The colour is pale pink. The nose shows juicy red fruit, strawberry and a candied violet note, with red cherry behind. The palate is smooth and balanced, the red berry carried by a fresh seam of acidity and a faint saline edge from the chalk. The finish is clean and refreshing. Serve it well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees in a white wine glass. It works as an aperitif and suits grilled chicken, summer salads and lighter seafood.
