Bodegas Laus makes this Garnacha in Somontano, in the foothills of the Aragonese Pyrenees. Four months in French and American oak give a bright ruby red of ripe red fruit and gentle spice, fresh and easy at 13.5 percent.
Description
Laus Garnacha Barrica is a Grenache from D.O. Somontano, made by Bodegas Laus in the Huesca foothills of the Aragonese Pyrenees in northeast Spain. Somontano means below the mountain, and the cool mountain influence shapes the wine: warm days ripen the Garnacha while cold air off the Pyrenees preserves acidity and freshness, keeping the fruit lively rather than jammy. Garnacha gives bright red fruit, a perfumed lift and naturally supple tannin. After fermentation the wine spends four months in French and American oak. This short barrel ageing rounds the tannins and adds a light vanilla and spice frame while keeping the fruit fresh and the body light, at a moderate 13.5 percent alcohol. The colour is brilliant ruby red with violet glints. The nose shows ripe red fruits, cherry and plum with a floral note and gentle oak spice. The palate is medium bodied and supple, with soft tannin, fresh acidity and a clean, fruit-driven finish. Serve at 15 to 17 degrees, lightly cool. It suits roast chicken, grilled pork and mushroom dishes.
