Description
Laurent Ponsot bottles this Chambolle-Musigny from the Les Sentiers premier cru, on the boundary with Morey-Saint-Denis in the Côte de Nuits. Chambolle is the most perfumed and delicate of the Nuits villages, an effect of its thin topsoil over hard, active limestone that drains sharply and yields lighter, more aromatic Pinot Noir. Les Sentiers lies on the slope above the village with good exposure and drainage, the cool climate and limestone holding the wine's acidity and fragrance. The 2021 vintage was cool and small, which suits Chambolle's fine, lifted style. Ageing in barrel lets slow oxygen exchange through the wood settle the tannin and add light spice while preserving the floral aromatics. It pours a pale to medium ruby. The nose is markedly floral, with red cherry and red berries over rose and white flowers, and a light earthy base. The palate is silky and fine-boned, with delicate tannin, fresh acidity and a long, mineral, perfumed finish. Serve at 16 degrees in a large glass with thirty minutes of air. It suits delicate game birds and roast poultry.
