Las Pedreras draws this organic Garnacha from more than 30 plots in the Sierra de Gredos, in D.O. Cebreros. Granite soils and altitude give a fresh, perfumed red of ripe cherry, red berries and herbal lift, aged seven months in barrel.
Description
Las Pedreras is a young organic project in the Sierra de Gredos, run by oenologist Bárbara Requejo and her partner Guzmán Sánchez, with a first vintage in 2020. Barrio Los Arroyuelos draws on more than 30 plots in the Alto Alberche within D.O. Cebreros, a high, mountainous corner of Castilla y León. The decomposed granite soils are poor and free draining, which restricts vigour and concentrates flavour, while the altitude brings cool nights and a wide diurnal range that preserves acidity and aromatic detail in the Garnacha. Farming is organic and the winemaking restrained, with a short seven month barrel ageing that adds a little structure while keeping the wine fresh and transparent to its site. The colour is bright and youthful. The nose is perfumed, with ripe cherry and red berries, a floral note and the wild herb and pepper character that altitude Gredos Garnacha tends to show. The palate is light to medium bodied, fine grained and energetic, the granite lending a mineral, savoury finish. Serve at 14 to 16 degrees, lightly chilled. It suits roast poultry, pork and mushroom dishes.
