Description
The Padro family have farmed in Santes Creus, in the Alt Camp district of Catalonia, across five generations, and LaRural is their low-intervention project. This orange wine comes from Parellada, a delicate local white grape better known as a base for sparkling wine, here given the skin-contact treatment. Fermenting the juice on its skins extracts phenolics, colour and a gentle tannin that give the wine its amber tint and dry textural grip, while keeping Parellada's natural lightness and fresh acidity. Ageing on the lees adds quiet body and a faintly savoury, nutty depth as the yeast sediment breaks down in contact with the wine. Farming is natural, organic and vegan, with native yeasts. The wine is pale amber. The nose is fresh and delicate, with green apple, pear and white flowers over dried herbs. The palate is light and dry at eleven percent, the lees adding texture while lemon, citrus peel and a fine grip carry a clean, almond-tinged finish. Serve chilled at 9 to 11 degrees.
