L’Archetipo makes this Salento rosato from Susumaniello, a deep-coloured native Puglian grape. Farmed biodynamically and naturally, aged seven months in steel, it is a fuller pink of ripe red berry, plum and a savoury, mineral edge.
Description
L'Archetipo is the Dibenedetto family winery in Salento, in the south of Puglia, where Francesco Valentino Dibenedetto farms biodynamically and follows a synergistic approach that maximises diversity in the vineyard. This rosato is made from Susumaniello, a dark-skinned native Puglian grape that gives strong colour and ripe red fruit in the region's hot, dry climate. The wine is pressed with short skin contact to capture that colour and fruit, then fermented and aged seven months in stainless steel, with minimal intervention in line with the natural and organic farming. The steel and lees contact lend texture and savoury depth while keeping the wine fresh and free of oak. In the glass it is a fuller, vivid pink, with ripe strawberry, cherry and plum over a floral note and a touch of pepper. The palate is dry and rounded, the warm Mediterranean fruit balanced by fresh acidity and a savoury, faintly mineral grip, closing long. This is a characterful rosé with real body. Serve at 9 to 11 degrees with grilled meats, roast poultry and tomato-based dishes.
