Celler Frisach makes L’Anit in D.O. Terra Alta from a single variety grown on Catalan hillsides. Organic, natural and vegan, it ferments and rests in concrete to keep the fruit clean, showing fresh strawberry, cherry and a savoury herbal edge.
Description
L'Anit comes from Celler Frisach, where brothers Joan and Francesc Ferré farm vineyards in D.O. Terra Alta, an inland corner of Catalonia whose family roots in Corbera d'Ebre stretch back two centuries. The region sits at altitude between the coast and the Ebro, with dry summers and meaningful day-to-night temperature swings that slow ripening and hold natural acidity in the grapes. The soils here are poor and stony, which limits vigour and concentrates the fruit. This is an organic, natural and vegan wine raised entirely in concrete rather than oak. Working in inert cement keeps oxygen exposure low and adds no wood flavour, so the tank preserves the bright primary fruit and a faint mineral grip from the site. The result is a moderately full-bodied red, deep in colour, with a fresh nose of strawberry and cherry over dried herbs and a touch of earth. The palate is juicy and well-structured, with fine tannin, red-fruit length and a savoury finish that reflects the warm, stony terroir. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees, with no need to decant. It suits roast pork, grilled chicken and mushroom dishes.
