Description
Véjade is made by L'Anglore in the southern Rhône, near Tavel and Lirac, a domaine known as one of the leading names in natural wine. It blends Grenache with Mourvèdre and Syrah, the classic grapes of the southern Rhône, but is worked in a deliberately light, fresh style rather than as a rich, high-alcohol red. The vineyards are farmed biodynamically and certified organic, and the wine is made with minimal intervention: native-yeast fermentation, gentle extraction and little or no added sulphur, with no new oak. The stony soils and the herb-scented garrigue of the region show in the wine's savoury lift, while the short maceration keeps tannin low and the fruit bright. It pours a pale, translucent ruby, with aromas of red berries, cherry and plum over black pepper, thyme and a floral rose note. The palate is light and fresh, low in tannin, with lively acidity and a peppery, herbal finish that reflects the Mourvèdre and Syrah in the blend. Serve lightly chilled at 13 to 15 degrees. Good with poultry, pork and lighter game.
