Description
L'Anglore works in the southern Rhône, around Tavel and Lirac, and is one of the reference points for natural wine in France. Terre d'Ombre is a light red built on Grenache Gris, a pink-skinned member of the Grenache family that gives pale colour and delicate red fruit rather than weight. The vineyards are farmed biodynamically and certified organic, and the wine is made with minimal intervention: whole clusters, wild yeasts and little or no added sulphur, with no new oak, so the fruit and the stony, herb-scrubbed character of the Rhône garrigue come through undisturbed. Fermentation runs on native yeast, and the short, gentle extraction keeps tannin low and the texture light, which is why the wine can be served cool. It is pale ruby, almost translucent, with aromas of fresh red berries, cherry and rhubarb lifted by rose, white flowers and a sage-like herbal note. The palate is light, fresh and low in tannin, with bright acidity and a savoury, mineral finish. Serve lightly chilled at 13 to 14 degrees. Good with roast chicken, charcuterie and lighter fish.
