Description
Domaine l'Anglore lies in Tavel, in the southern Rhone valley in south-east France, where Eric Pfifferling farms biodynamically and makes wine with minimal intervention. This bottling is a field blend of old-vine Grenache with Cinsault, Carignan, Mourvedre and a little white Clairette, co-planted and co-fermented. Tavel's galets and sandy soils drain freely and reflect heat, ripening the fruit fully, while the region's warm, dry climate and the mistral wind keep the grapes healthy and concentrate flavour. Whole bunches are fermented on wild yeast with no added sulphur, and the wine is raised in large old wood, which softens it gently and adds savoury depth without oak flavour. The colour is a pale, bright red. The nose shows red berries, dried herbs and pepper, with a floral, earthy lift. The palate is aromatic and savoury, with ripe but light tannins, fresh acidity and a long, herbal finish. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees, lightly chilled if you prefer. It suits grilled lamb, game and roast pork.
