Description
Tavel in the southern Rhône is best known for rosé, but Eric Pfifferling's natural domaine L'Anglore also makes light, vivid reds here from old Grenache vines. The Jardin d'Orfeuil bottling comes off the warm galets and sandy soils of a single site, farmed biodynamically and made with minimal intervention. The 2020 is aged in concrete rather than oak, an inert material that holds temperature steady and lets the wine settle without taking on wood flavour or extra oxygen, so the fresh fruit stays in the foreground. At 12% it is built for lightness and early drinking rather than power. The colour is pale and bright, and the nose shows fresh cherry, red berries and plum with a floral, rose-petal lift. The palate is light bodied and juicy, with soft tannin, lively acidity and an earthy, savoury finish. Serve it cool, around 13 to 14C, in a Burgundy glass, treating it almost as a crossover between red and rosé. It is good with roast pork, poultry and charcuterie.
