L'Anglore is Eric Pfifferling's domaine in Tavel in the southern Rhône, farmed biodynamically and made in a natural style with little intervention. This Lirac red blends Grenache with Mourvèdre and a touch of the white grape Clairette, grown on the warm stony soils of the Rhône's right bank. It is made by carbonic maceration, where whole bunches ferment in a sealed tank under carbon dioxide before pressing, a method that draws bright, juicy fruit from the grapes while keeping tannins low and the wine light on its feet. The result sits at a modest 12% and stays fresh and youthful rather than rich. The colour is bright and the nose leads with plum and red berries, lifted by black pepper and a floral, almost rose-like note. The palate is light bodied, vivid and crunchy, with gentle tannin and a clean, savoury finish. Serve it lightly chilled, around 14C, in a Burgundy glass. It suits roast pork, charcuterie and lighter game.
