Description
Winzerhof Landauer-Gisperg works in the Weinviertel of Lower Austria, and this is a rose frizzante, a semi-sparkling wine at a gentle eleven per cent. The grapes are fermented at controlled temperature in stainless steel to keep the red fruit clear and lively, then given a soft second fermentation for the fine, elegant bead. There is no lees ageing or oak; this is a fresh, primary-fruited style built for easy drinking. Sitting dry to off-dry, it balances red fruit, freshness and lightness in equal measure.
The colour is a delicate salmon pink with a fine, lively bead. The nose gives strawberry, raspberry and red currant over soft floral notes. The palate is refreshing and juicy, a harmonious acidity carrying the red fruit to a light, invigorating close. Serve at 6 to 8 degrees in a white wine glass. It makes a summery aperitif and pairs with antipasti, prosciutto with melon, berry salads, grilled salmon and light poultry.
