Description
Lan Crianza comes from the LAN cellar in Fuenmayor, in the Rioja subzone, and takes its name from the initials of Logroño, Alava and Navarra, the three provinces that made up the historic Rioja. It is made entirely from Tempranillo, the grape that defines classic Rioja, grown on the clay and limestone soils of the region under a climate that balances Atlantic and continental influence. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, followed by a fifteen-day maceration with regular pump-overs to draw the maximum colour and structure from the skins. The wine then ages twelve months in French and American oak barrels, where slow oxygen exchange softens the tannins and the two oak types combine French finesse with American vanilla and spice. The colour is a bright cherry red. The nose is fresh and elegant, leading with raspberry and ripe strawberry over a gentle vanilla and spice frame. The palate is smooth and balanced, with red fruit, fine tannins and the savoury, supple character of a traditional crianza. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees with roast lamb, grilled beef or pork.
