Description
Lajita Mezcal Joven Blanco is the purist, unaged bottling from a brand that has been around since 1989, sitting alongside its worm bearing reposado. Made from 100 percent Espadin agave, it is a transparent joven that is filled straight after distillation, with no rest in wood and, unlike its stablemate, no larva in the bottle.
The spirit goes through a natural fermentation in wooden vats and a double distillation in copper pot stills before bottling. The aromas are delicate and balanced, characteristic of Espadin, gently herbal with smoky and mineral notes from the underground roast that defines the category. The palate stays fresh, soft and light, holding a long finish with that same balance of restrained roasting smoke and stony minerality. At 40 percent it is mild enough to draw in mezcal newcomers and tequila drinkers, and it works equally as a sipper or in cocktails.
