Description
This 16 Years Old was a Managers' Choice release, Diageo's series of single casks chosen by each distillery manager, distilled in 1993 and matured in Oloroso and European oak, drawn from cask 4477, an outturn of 612 bottles. The distillery dates from 1816, set in its namesake bay on southern Islay.
The peated spirit comes off the stills slowly, gaining body. Matured in Oloroso and European oak at full strength, the sherry wraps the smoke in dried fruit.
54.7%, the cask's own strength. Phenols and guaiacol carry the peat smoke, the sherry casks giving fig and raisin. Tasting notes take in a mossy note, citrus, a kippery edge, a malt extract note, a medicinal edge and new wood. A sherried Managers' Choice single cask.
