Description
The Lagavulin Offerman Edition: Caribbean Rum Cask (4th Edition) was released in 2023 as the fourth bottling in the ongoing collaboration between Lagavulin Distillery and Nick Offerman. Unlike the core range or Special Releases, the Offerman Editions are designed as limited annual explorations of alternative cask influence while retaining Lagavulin’s unmistakable peated style.
The whisky is initially matured in traditional oak before undergoing a secondary maturation in Caribbean rum casks, a finishing choice intended to add subtle sweetness and warmth rather than dominate the spirit. Bottled at 46 percent ABV, it sits above the standard 16 Year Old in strength, giving the whisky enough structure to absorb the rum cask influence without softening its smoky core.
On the nose, peat smoke is layered with brown sugar, vanilla and hints of tropical fruit. The palate remains firmly Lagavulin in character, delivering dense smoke, charred oak, treacle and spice, with the rum casks contributing gentle sweetness rather than overt fruitiness. The finish is long and warming, combining lingering smoke, dry oak and a restrained molasses note. Released in limited quantities across the UK, Ireland, Europe and North America, this edition offers a measured and deliberate variation on the Lagavulin house style.
