Description
This 23 Years Old is a Lagavulin Casks of Distinction, distilled in 1992 and matured in Oloroso and European oak, drawn from cask 5745, bottled in 2016 for China, an outturn of 420 bottles. Lagavulin, founded in 1816, is the middle voice of southern Islay's peated trio.
The peated spirit is distilled slowly, the still shape adding weight. Matured in Oloroso and European oak at full strength, the sherry wraps two decades of smoke in dried fruit.
At cask strength, 55.7%. Phenols and guaiacol carry the peat smoke, the Oloroso and European oak giving fig and raisin with a walnut dryness. A deep sherried Casks of Distinction Lagavulin.
