This 7 Years Old was Lagavulin's bottling for the Islay Jazz Festival in 2022, a young cask strength release of 2,490 bottles. Lagavulin, in a bay on the south of Islay, was founded in 1816 and is one of the island's most famous distilleries.
Onion-shaped stills and a slow run give Lagavulin its weight. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks and bottled young at full strength, the peat comes through bright and direct.
59.5%, the cask's own strength. The phenols, guaiacol among them, drive the smoke, the ex-Bourbon adding vanilla and citrus, the full strength sharpening both. Tasting notes take in smoke, vanilla, citrus, fresh fruit and a medicinal edge. A young, punchy festival Lagavulin.
