Description
Murray McDavid bottled this 1979 Lagavulin for The Syndicate's, a 38 year old single cask from ex-Bourbon cask 115, an outturn of 162 bottles. Among the oldest independent Lagavulins ever released. Established in 1816, Lagavulin sits in a quiet bay on the south of Islay.
Lagavulin's slow distillation builds the depth its malt is known for. Matured in a single ex-Bourbon cask, nearly four decades soften the smoke into a waxy maturity.
Bottled at 46.3%. Guaiacol and phenols carry a mellowed smoke, the ex-Bourbon giving vanilla over a waxy depth. The recorded note is fresh fruit. A rare very old independent Lagavulin.
